An adult case of single atrium diagnosed using three-dimensional echocardiography

چکیده
Previously, complete absence of an interatrial septum (IAS) was thought to be a form of an atrioventricular septal defect involving the cleft mitral valve and interventricular communication. Ellis et al. (1) defined this condition as common atrium (CA). This congenital cardiac anomaly is especially observed in association with heterotaxy syndrome. Levy et al. (2) reported a case of complete absence of IAS without other cardiac defects; however, this condition was different from CA defined by Ellis et al. (1). They used the term single atrium (SA) to denote this anomaly. Two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography (2-D-TTE) is the preferred imaging method for the examination of IAS and concomittant congenital cardiac pathologies (3). Three-dimensional TTE (3-D-TTE) is a recently introduced tool for examining the heart; it enables the visualization of 3-D, complex and dynamic anatomic aspects of relevant cardiac structures. There has not been any case of SA diagnosed using 3-D-TTE. Here we present a unique case of an adult patient with SA diagnosed using 3-D-TTE.

Cor Triatriatum Sinister diagnosed in adult life with three dimensional transesophageal echocardiography
BACKGROUND Cor triatriatum is a very rare congenital abnormality, usually symptomatic during childhood, diagnosis in adult age is less common. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a 40 years old woman referred to our hospital for atrial flutter ablation, transthoracic cardiac bidimensional echocardiography showed an abnormal membrane bisecting the left atrium, the diagnosis of cor triatria...
متن کاملA Free - Floating Ball Valve Thrombus in the Left Atrium: Diagnosed Clinically and by Trans Thoracic Two - Dimensional Echocardiography
A Free-floating ball valve thrombus in the left atrium is a rare clinical entity and has been reported infrequently in Indian literature despite the high incidence of Rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. Early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention are mandatory otherwise it may lead to catastrophic consequence. We are presenting our experience with one such case which was diagnosed clinically ...
متن کاملPreoperative assessment of cor triatriatum in an adult by dynamic three dimensional echocardiography was more informative than transoesophageal echocardiography or magnetic resonance imaging.
Classic cor triatriatum is rarely found in adults. Preoperative assessment of classic cor triatriatum in a 22 year old man without symptoms by three dimensional echocardiography was more informative than transoesophageal echocardiography or magnetic resonance imaging, which both showed only a small hole in the membrane separating the accessory atrium from the true left atrium. The size of the h...
متن کاملUsefulness of intraoperative real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography in preprocedural evaluation of cortriatriatum -a case report-
Cortriatriatum is a rare congenital cardiac disorder with fibromuscular band (diaphragm) dividing the left atrium (LA) into the proximal and distal parts. Surgical correction of cortriatriatum requires full preoperative evaluation of the structural anomalies including the LA diaphragm and their pathophysiology. In the present case, a 44 year-old lady diagnosed as cortriatriatum underwent surgic...
متن کاملInadvertent Diversion of Inferior Vena Cava to Left Atrium after Repair of Atrial Septal Defect – Early Diagnosis and Correction of Error: Role of Intraoperative Transesophageal Echocardiography
481 The Editor, Iatrogenic diversion of inferior vena cava (IVC) to left atrium had been reported many times.[1‐8] In few reported cases, this complication was detected years after surgery.[2] Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is instrumental in timely diagnosis of such surgical errors and helps in immediate correction of such complication.[3] We describe a case of ostium secundum atrial s...
